This year, our team was a part of this prominent event along with 55,000+ other participants from all over the world; here’s a brief rundown of things we think you’ll want to hear about from the expo.
Highlights of the 2018 Exhibition
To start, the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) is a world-renowned trade show which takes place at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam every September. The event is made up of an IBC Exhibition of equipment and hardware, an IBC Conference, an IBC Awards ceremony, and a Cyber Security Forum.
To give you some insight into how important this event is, here are some of the top companies that participated in the IBC Exhibition 2018: Facebook, Google, Sony, Huawei, Playwizard, BBC Research and Development, the list goes on.
Basically, the event aims to embrace all the emerging tech in the fields of broadcasting, mobile video, IPTV, dynamic billboards, and all kinds of visual innovation, making it the hottest spot to learn about the industry and its future direction. Now, we’d like to share with you our own experience as IBC Exhibition attendees.
What was the IBC Exhibition 2019
With over seven football fields’ worth of exhibition space, the IBC Exhibition covered fifteen halls across the RAI and hosted over 1,700 exhibitors from across media, entertainment, and technology industries. For 2019, the attendance list included such big names as Google, Facebook, Vimeo, Huawei, Adobe, Amazon Web Services, BBC Research & Development, Dolby, Sony, Samsung Electronics Europe, and a whole load more.
The exhibition serves as a perfect platform to showcase your brand, build your network, and form relationships with suppliers and customers, as well as to discover the latest trends and technologies within the industry. We couldn’t miss a chance to dive into this year’s event and here’s a short review of what excited us most.
Our Team’s Experience at IBC 2019
At the event, our team was out in full force throughout the exhibition weekend. We loved the event and had a chance to get some insider gossip and honest talk with some of the most influential media companies of the moment.
At The Future Zone and no only
The Future Zone, one of the exhibition halls, brought together the very latest ideas, innovations, and concept technologies from international industry and academia. Visitors were able to see innovative technologies at various stages of their development life cycle and to experience some of the astounding new achievements in the industry.
Setting up exhibits this time around were NTT, showing off their world-leading drone technologies, BBC Research and Development exploring the 5G theme of this year, Animorph with their real-time object recognition app, and plenty more.
For instance, Sony presented a new flagship XDCAM interchangeable lens video camera. The FX9 features a full-frame sensor and can shoot in 6K. While Blackmagic introduced the ATEM Mini – a live production switcher that enables multi-camera switching when live streaming to YouTube or Facebook; a great little tool for all the vloggers out there.
At The Content Everywhere Zone
Over in the Content Everywhere Zone, visitors were invited to delve into the world of online TV and video. There was plenty of chances to get to grips with the latest trends, newest strategies, and upcoming developments in the field. In 2019, the program included informative and inspirational talks from the experts representing exhibiting companies. They shared about the future as they saw it of streaming live events, automation of multi-camera sports production, creating localized video content for global audiences, plus lots more besides.
We especially loved the talk by Kristen Kampetis, Senior Manager of Technical Onboarding and Operations at Vimeo, with a presentation dedicated to the ins and outs of Vimeo OTT.
Always ones to add some playfulness to proceedings, Google’s area was built as a miniature Amsterdam that gave them plenty of scopes to show off the innovations they’d bought along. This was definitely a favorite with all of our team.
We had high hopes as we were flying in for the 2019 IBC Exhibition and they were most definitely fulfilled, and then some. The IBC is truly the premier event for all sorts of professionals engaged in the creation, management, and delivery of entertainment. Our team was fascinated by the future direction of the technology and the awesome innovations that are going to change the industry.
